Portraits/Portrék

Grandma Carol has a portrait collection of all her grandchildren at the age of a year and a half, so she asked us if we can have a nice picture taken of Benjamin at this age. So we asked the best photographer around: my brother, Péter. Over Easter weekend he took a few portrait shots of Benjamin, like this one:

But we like this one too:
De ez is tetszik nekünk:
Of course we asked Oliver too if he wouldn't mind posing for a photo:
Persze Olivért is megkértük, hogy pózoljon egyet a fotós gépe előtt:
We all know that little kids are not able to sit motionless for any given time while the Master Photographer sets the lights, etc. So we looked for a kid-sized volunteer to take this job. We found one and I must say, he did a great job not fidgeting around! :)

Mindannyian tudjuk, hogy a kisgyerekek nem képesek mozdulatlanul tölteni semennyi időt sem, mialatt a Fotómaistro beállítja a fényeket, stb. Ezért kénytelenek voltunk egy kistermetű önkéntest keresni erre a feladatra. Találtunk is, és szó se róla, mocorgás nélkül teljesítette a munkáját! :)
As I mentioned earlier, my brother has a website of his photography. So far only the sports fans could take delight in this site, but now he has uploaded some nature pictures like the one below taken at Lake Balaton. You can find more if you just click here and find Természet in the left column under Fotógaléria.

Egy kirándulás képei/A hike in pictures

Íme a délután képekben:

We haven't spent a lot of time together recently, so Sunday afternoon we decided to go on a hike in this beautiful weather, like a big happy family. :) Tatabánya is not famous for its beauty, but there are nice places for hikes. Here are some pictures of our afternoon:

Ide megyünk fel (nem a legaljáról persze)
We're going to walk up there (not from the bottom of course)
Jól jön egy kis segítség hegynek fel/It's good to have a little help uphill
A fiúk a hegytetőn/The boys on the top of the hill
Lefelé már gyalog jött végig Benjámin/Benjamin walked by himself on the way down
Olivér, az úriember/Oliver, the gentleman
A mi városunknak is van ám szép kosárpalánkja, nemcsak Tajikisztánnak!
Our town also has nice basketball goals, not just Tajikistan!

We like to discover new flavors. Sometimes something tasty comes out of seemingly non-compatible ingredients. One of my friends made a soup the other day that had carrots AND tangerines in it - and it was yummy! :) I made a salad for the Easter lunch at our church that didn't contain such "wild" ingredients but I would never come up with this combination myself: broccoli, bacon and raisins. Matthew's mom makes it (thanks for the recipe, Carol!) and it is one of my favorite salads. I am happy to report that others liked it too! :)

Benjámin és a csokinyuszi/Benjamin and the chocolate bunny

Történetünk három részben: beszéljenek helyettem a képek!
Our story in three parts: let the pictures speak for themselves!

Előtte/Before
Közben/During
Utána/After

He ate up the whole thing!!! Oliver - who also doesn't say no to sweets - stopped at about one third of his bunny. Not Little Turbo Kid! Thankfully he didn't get sick afterwards...

Snow/Hó

This is what happened yesterday after a few hours of sunshine. The snow didn't stay on the ground but it was just shocking to see the big flakes after a springy day... Anyway, hope you are all well. Matthew left for a 2-day youth conference in Vajta taking 10 young people from our church. It has been going well! The boys and I are great too, but it will be nice to have Daddo back. :)

On a happier note, daffodils are growing in our yard:
Yes, I got the picture off the internet, but it's cold and dark outside and my husband is not home, so I am staying inside, thank you! :)

Happy Easter to you!!! "But God raised him from the dead...because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him." (Acts 2:24) He is risen indeed!!!

(Apostolok cselekedetei 2, 24)

Comments/Megjegyzések

Just wanted to let you know that we changed the settings so now you can leave comments anonymously, without having a Google account or a username (but we would appreciate it if you told us who you are anyway :). We know some of you are not leaving comments because you don't want to bother about setting up an account, etc. We understand! So hopefully in the future more people will tell us that they are reading our entries instead of e-mailing our mutual friend and asking her to tell us that they like our blog...

Fotós weboldal/Website with photos

I proudly announce that my brother, who is a great photographer, launched his website, where you can see cool pictures, mainly in the area of sports, but he is also continuously uploading new pictures of other themes too! Check out www.foto24.hu. You can click on the sidebar on the left (under fotógaléria) to see basketball (kosárlabda) and handball (kézilabda) photos and he will be uploading nature (természet) and city photos (városok) too. Have fun browsing!

Ízelítőül imhol az egyik legújabb kézis kép.

To give you a taste, here is a handball picture. I know this sport is not very well known in the States, but it is popular in Europe and Hungarians are very good at it. If you have any questions about it, I will forward them to my brother Péter. :)

Hospitality/Vendégvárás

We like to be hospitable. Right now our church is hosting an American team who came to do English clubs and practical ministries. When they arrived on Friday, we hosted them for dinner. We invited two other families, so they can get to know the team too. So in total there were 25 of us in our home! The meal was Hungarian goulash soup and cakes. A great time was had by all, especially by our kids, who absolutely love having company!

Vasarnap Este-Sunday Evening

As a worship leader, the Sunday evening service at the Budapest Calvary has been a real breath of fresh air for me. I have really been enjoying my once a month commitment there. Here's a clip of me singing a song I never thought I'd sing in church. It doesn't sound too bad, even considering that the band had never heard the song before and we only ran through it about 4 times in rehearsal. It's a huge blessing to play with good musicians. So for those who are unfamiliar, this is "The presence of the Lord" originally by Blind Faith (Clapton-Winwood).

Here's another from the same night. "In Your Presence" (not sure by who). Mea is singing with me. If you'd to see more, you can search on YouTube. There are quite a few up from over the last year. I hope you enjoy 'em!

Our new friend/Új barátunk

This is what we found in our yard last night! It rained during the day, which was probably why our little friend came out. Oliver held it without any hesitation, Benjamin liked it too but didn't wish to get in close contact (and yes, you guessed it, I also turned down the tempting offer to hug the slimy little creature! :) Benjamin talked about the experience all night: he calls frogs simply "b" (as in béka in Hungarian), so he was sitting in the bathtub saying "b...b...b" excitedly and pointing outside. Very cute! :)

Here is a close-up of Mr. Froggy. Beautiful brown eyes, eh? (I mean Oliver's, not the frog's, haha! :)
Itt egy közeli kép béka pajtásról. Gyönyörű barna szemek, nem? (Mármint Olivéré, nem a békáé, haha!!! :)

PS: We have a biologist friend who knows a lot about frogs. So Brandon, if you are reading this and have any insights into who our little neighbor is, let us know! :)

Nőnap/Women's Day

Utólag is sok boldog nőnapot kívánok minden kedves nőtársamnak! No mindegy.
- Ki a főnök? (no comment)

In Central and Eastern European countries and Central Asia March 8 is Women's Day (maybe in other places, too, I am not sure). In Hungary it used to be a bigger deal than it is now; I remember when we were at school we always got flowers from the boys in the class and family members. Anyway, when I reminded Matthew the day before, he was feeling bad that he hadn't come up with a gift idea for me, but then we agreed that it was no problem: the biggest gift for me would be if he got up for the kids in the morning and I could snooze a little more (if you are a mom with small kids, I can see you nodding enthusiastically! :) Anyway, it was great and I really appreciated my gift. We would like to post a video in connection with this. Matthew trained Benjamin (and Oliver back then) to answer two questions that he obviously doesn't understand at this age. The answer to the first one may be surprising, but hey, that's part of my Women's Day gift! :)

At the first take things didn't quite go as Matthew had planned. :)

Na akkor próbáljuk meg mégegyszer!
OK, let's try it one more time!

Playground/Játszótér

OK, so maybe we should write more about little everyday events. Let's talk about playgrounds first. :) There are three that are not too far from our house, but today we found a new one. It's actually a little farther (15-20 min walk), but the walk is on a flat surface as opposed to the other ones, where you have to climb a hill. We haven't had very many spring days, but today was one of them so we spent quite a bit of time outside - which the kids loved of course. However, I have to admit that going to the playground is not one of my hobbies. I know a few of my mom friends would agree: it's kind of boring to go to the same spot and do the same things every day with the kids! (But it's not boring for the kids for even the 60th time!!!) Especially Benjamin is at an age when he needs help all the time, he puts sand in his mouth, he whines about things, and then there is the pile of dirty clothes and sand when we come home. I am not complaining, since it is much better now than last year, when he could only crawl around in the sometimes not-so-clean grass (eek!) But I think for me this thing is a part of what the Bible calls "dying to self". I have a lot to learn!

Here are some photos and a video for you to enjoy. :)

PS: In a few days Matthew will update you on what he is up to and also post about a discovery he made in a store.

Rendben, akkor talán többet kéne a mindennapi kis eseményekről írnunk. Kezdjük a játszóterekkel.

Blogging is interesting. We haven't posted for a while not only because the lack of time, but also because it's sometimes hard to come up with a topic. This is a two-fold thing. On the one hand, I don't think anyone except the grandparents care about which playground we went to today or what Benjamin is babbling these days. :) On the other hand, we are not the type of people who write about deep thoughts, problems and feelings. As we don't know who reads our blog, it would be really one-way communication. And many times there is no topic in between. That's all.

Azért hogy ne legyek ennyire uncsi, imhol néhány kép:
But I don't want to be too boring, so here are some pictures:
