Képes beszámoló/Report with pictures

Íme egy újabb bejelentkezés az óceán túloldaláról. Nagyjából sikerült átállni, az éjszakák nem túl vészesek, kivéve, hogy Benjámin kicsit lebetegedett (köhögés, torokfájás, egyebek), de voltunk egy itteni kedves doktorbácsinál, kaptunk gyógyszert és már jobban van a drága. Most itt van Matt szüleinél mindhárom fiú családostul, úgyhogy 13 ember lakozik a (hála Istennek elég nagy) házban pár napig.

Úgy tűnik, hogy nemcsak testileg, de lelkileg is elég jól ment az átállás a srácoknak. Teljesen otthon érzik magukat Grandma házában, hozzászoktak az angolhoz (ami főleg Benjáminnál nagy dolog) és bár nem nagyon emlékeznek az itteni barátokra (a család kivételével persze), elég jól feltalálják magukat. Benjámin például ma végig bent volt a gyüliben a gyerekeknél és nagyon jól érezte magát (hazafelé mondjuk 3 perc alatt elaludt a kocsiban :).

Hát ennyi szóban. De beszéljenek helyettem a képek! :)

Here is another update from Stateside. We have managed to get over jet lag, so our nights our going OK, except that Benjamin has been sick (cough, sore throat, what not), but we visited a nice local doctor, got medicine and he is doing better. Now all three boys are here with their families at Matthew's parents' house, so there are 13 of us staying in this (thankfully big enough) house.

The boys seem to have adjusted not just physically but emotionally, too. They feel at home at Grandma's house, they have gotten used to English all around (which is a big deal especially for BG) and although they don't really remember friends from here (except for family of course), they get around pretty well. For instance, Benjamin was in the children's ministry at church during the whole service and had a good time (he also fell asleep in the car on the way home in like 3 minutes. :)

Még az időjárásról annyit, hogy gyönyörű a téli táj, de iszonyat hideg van! -18 C van, de a széllel együtt (itt így is kiszámolják) -28 C. Brrrr! Havazott, aztán jégeső-vihar következett (sok lakásban nincs áram, így fűtés sem), napközben szépen süt a nap, ragyognak a fákon a jégcsapok, de olyan hideg szél fúj, hogy pár percnél tovább nem lehet kint megmaradni.

As for the weather, the winter scenery is beautiful, but it's incredibly chilly! It is -1 F but it's actually -20 with the windchill. Brrrr! It snowed, then came the ice-storm (many homes are lacking electricity and thus heat), the sun is shining beautifully during the day, the icicles are glistening on the trees, but the wind is so strong and cold that it's unbearable to stay outside for more than a few minutes.

Megjöttünk!/We made it!

Örömmel tudatjuk mindenkivel, hogy épségben megérkeztünk az óceán túlpartjára! :) Jó volt az út, a gyerekek ügyesek voltak, csak iszonyú hosszú ideig tart ide megérkezni! (Persze ha arra gondolok, hogy Matt öccséék Közép-Ázsiából utaztak ide, és amikor Budapest felett repültek, már 16 órája utaztak, akkor már mindjárt nem panaszkodom ennyire...) Még küszködünk az átállással, főleg Benjámin. Első reggel (hajnalban) 3-kor jelezték a srácok, hogy kezdődhet a nap, a másodikon már 4:30-kor, úgyhogy haladunk! :)

Nagyon klassz a családdal lenni és a fiúk kb. 1 perc alatt összebarátkoztak (megint) két éves unokatesójukkal, Ellaval. Vicces volt, mert első reggel a srácaink jöttek fel a lépcsőn, ott állt Ella, és Benjámin, ahogy meglátta, udvariasan bemutatkozott: "Benjámin vagyok" (magyarul). Ezután kb. nyolcszor ölelte meg fél óra alatt, amit unokatesója hősiesen tűrt. :)

Remélem, nemsokára képekkel is szolgálhatok. Minden jót! MMOB

We are happy to let you know that we made it safely to the States! The trip was uneventful and the kids did great but it surely takes a long time to get here! (Of course when I think about Matt's brother and his family getting here from Central Asia and the fact that they had already been travelling for 16 hours when they flew over Budapest, I stop complaining...) We are still fighting jet-lag, especially Benjamin. The first morning they were up at 3am ready to start their day, the second one it was 4:30, so I think we're making progress! :)

It is wonderful to be with family. The boys immediately made friends (again) with their 2-year-old cousin, Ella. It was funny as the first morning our boys were coming up the stairs and Ella was standing there. Benjamin, as soon as he saw her, introduced himself politely: "I am Benjamin" (in Hungarian). Then he hugged her like eight times in half an hour, which Ella endured patiently. :)

...a száma azoknak a házi dolgozatoknak, zárthelyiknek, beadandóknak és szakdolgozatoknak, amit az elkövetkezendő néhány napban ki kell javítanom. Igen, itt a félév vége! És akkor még nem is említettem, hogy holnap nálunk lesz a családi karácsony, vasárnap én tanítom a gyerekeket a gyüliben és 13-án utazunk Amerikába! Fogalmam sincs, hogy fér be mindez az időnkbe... Összefoglalva: van egy olyan sanda gyanúm, hogy a blogolás kissé háttérbe szorul most az életünkben. Bevallom, pár napra el is feledkeztem arról, hogy van blogunk! :)

Boldog Mikulást mindenkinek, pucoljátok ki szépen a csizmákat, hátha lesz benne valami finomság! :)

...is the number of term papers, tests, assignments and theses that I have to grade in the following few days. Yes, the end of semester has come! Not to mention that tomorrow we are hosting the Christmas celebration with my family, on Sunday I am teaching the kids at church and on the 13th we are flying to America! I have no idea how this all will fit into our lives... To sum up: I have a sneaking suspicion that blogging will not be a top priority in the coming days. I actually have to admit that for the last few days I even forgot that we have a blog! :)

Hull a pelyhes/Winter wonderland

Elég cudar hideg van mifelénk mostanában, pár napja pedig havas tájra ébredtünk. A tél visszavonhatlanul megérkezett! Gondoltam, megosztom veletek, hogy kis családunk tagjai hogyan reagáltak, mikor egyik reggel megpillantották az idei első havat.

Olivér: Jaj, de jó! Mehetünk hógolyózni!
Benjámin: Hóembert építünk!
Matt: Húha, még nem raktam fel a téli gumikat a kocsira...
Én: Jaj, Benjámin kinőtte a tavalyi csizmáját. Most mit adok rá?

Bár a minta közel sem reprezentatív, azt hiszem megállapíthatjuk, hogy a hó iránti lelkesedés mintha csökkenni látszana az életkor előrehaladtával! :)

Epilógus: az autóra és a gyermekünkre is került azóta téli felszerelés. Ja, és nem vásároltunk bárányokat az "új" kertünkbe, csak megtetszett a kép, a fényképezőgépünk pedig sajnos megint nem működik...

The weather's been frightful around recently, meaning cold and even a little snow. Winter is here without a doubt! I thought I would share the reactions our family members had to looking out the window and seeing the first snow one morning.

Oliver: Wow, we can have a snow-ball fight!
Benjamin: And build a snowman!
Matthew: Oh, I haven't put on the winter tires on the car yet!
Me: Oh my, Benjamin's boots from last year are too small now. What will I put on him today?

Although the sample cannot be called representative, I think the trend we see emerging is that the enthusiasm about snow seems to fade with age! :)

Epilogue: both the car and our boy received their winter gear. Also, we haven't bought sheep for our "new" yard. I just liked the picture and unfortunately our camera is broke again...

Here is a photo of a wonderful woman who is turning 90 years old today!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRANDMA MID!!! :)) Sorry that we missed the festivities yesterday!!! If we ever live to be 90, we want to be like you! Looking great, thinking sharp, and most of all, loving the Lord and your family!

My two favorite memories about Grandma is when she came to our wedding at the age of 81, having never left the country or flown before!!! She loved the adventures and we were very blessed to have her here! :) The second one is when Matthew and I played board games with her. More than once she beat our COMBINED score in Boggle - ouch! :)

I know that when Wayne and Carol show you this, you'll be saying "Oh, you shouldn't have posted this about me!" But we did!!! We love you and can't wait to see you very soon!!! :))

Ezen a képen egy fantasztikus asszonyt láthattok, aki ma tölti be a 90. életévét! Matt nagymamájáról van szó, akinek a minden bizonnyal frenetikus szülinapi köszöntéséről sajnos lemaradtunk tegnap! Mindenesetre ha megérjük ezt a kort, szerenénk olyanok lenni, mint ő! Csodásan néz ki, vág az esze és ami a legfontosabb, nagyon szereti Jézust és a családját!

Két kedves emlékemet szeretném leírni Grandma Mid-ről. Az egyik, hogy 81 éves korában, életében először, repülőre ült, elhagyta hazáját és eljött az esküvőnkre!!! Nagyon tetszett neki az út, mi pedig nagyon örültünk annak, hogy velünk ünnepelhetett! :) A másik emlék, amikor hármasban társasoztunk. Volt olyan, hogy egy nyelvi játékban túlszárnyalta kettőnk ÖSSZESÍTETT eredményét - jaaaj! :)

Mikor Matt szülei megmutatják neki ezt a bejegyzést a gépen, biztos azt fogja mondani, hogy nem kellett volna róla írnunk a blogon. De megtettük és alig várjuk, hogy nemsokára találkozzunk vele!

Bobcat

Some of you know that we have a big project around the house: we would like to make our yard from a concrete and dust covered unfriendly place into something nice and kid-friendly, where we can invite people, have cook-outs, etc. We are making some progress! One day recently was very exciting in this project: we had a bobcat come and work in our yard! As you can imagine, the boys were fascinated all day looking at this nifty construction machine at work. Néhányan tudjátok, hogy nagy fába vágtuk a fejszénket kis házunk táján: szeretnénk a poros, barátságtalan betontengerből valami szépet és gyerekbarátot kialakítani, ahova vendégeket hívhatunk, sütögethetünk, stb. Haladunk! Az egyik nap nemrégiben igencsak izgalmas volt a project szempontjából: egy bobcat jött a kertünkbe dolgozni! Vienna/Bécs

A few weeks ago Matthew had to go to Vienna for a day, so we decided to tag along.
Pár hete Mattnek Bécsbe kellett mennie egy napra, így úgy határoztunk, hogy elkísérjük.

We went to the famous Prater.
Elmentünk a híres Praterba.
Last time we were there, the 8 Euro ticket for the ferris wheel scared us away. But this time we thought we have to go just to experience it! Well, it was OK, but nothing special honestly. Been there, done that!

Mikor legutóbb jártunk arra, a 8 Eurós jegy elijesztett minket az óriáskerék kipróbálásától. De most úgy döntöttünk, egyszer ki kell próbálni! Hát, szép volt, jó volt, de semmi különös. Ezt is kipipálhatjuk a listáról!

Milestones/Mérföldkövek

Last night Benjamin slept in his big boy bed for the first time! We have been getting ready to transfer him for a while. The plan actually is for Matthew to build a "level" under Oliver's bed up high, but for now we are just borrowing a bed. Benjamin was very happy about the change, especially after Oliver gave him his Bob the Builder pillowcase and blanket. :)

Tegnap este Benjámin először aludt a nagyfiús ágyában! Már régóta készülünk erre, és igazából a terv az, hogy Matt készít neki egy "szintet" Olivér magas ágya alá, de egyelőre kölcsönkértünk egy ágyat és azt használjuk. Benjámin nagyon örült a fejleménynek, főleg, hogy Olivér neki adta a Bob the Builder ágyneműjét. :)

Oliver has been getting ready for something too: for five years, he has been sleeping with his faithful friend, Doggy, and now he decided that it was time for the furry companion to retire! Last night he slept without him for the first time. The night was uneventful and according to plans, we are traveling to the States without Doggy! During our trip he will hang out at Nagyi's house. Poor thing has taken three return trips over the ocean, so it's time for a rest! :)

Olivér is régen készülődik valamire: öt éve hűséges jóbarátjával, Doggy-val alszik, és most úgy döntött, nyugdíjazzuk végre a plüss társat! Tegnap este aludt nélküle először. Az éjszaka eseménytelenül telt, és a tervek szerint Doggy már nem jön velünk Amerikába, hanem itt marad Nagyiéknál. Szegény már három oda-vissza utat tett meg az óceán felett, ráfér a pihenés! :)

We're back!/Visszajöttünk!

As I mentioned in the last post, we were going to get away a little. No, we haven't been away since then; we just had a two-day trip to this place:

Ahogy említettem az előző bejegyzésben, egy kis szabit vettünk ki. Nem, nem azóta utazgatunk, csak két napra mentünk el erre a helyre:
For you unfamiliar with Hungary, Keszthely is on the north shore of Lake Balaton and this area is beautiful, especially in the fall. As our wedding was in October, this time of year we try to get away to a different spot in the country. God blessed us with beautiful, warm weather this time too. Being kiddo-free was strange, but we got to do things we normally don't do, such as:

Nagyon szeretjük a Balaton felvidéket. Gyönyörű helyek vannak errefelé, különösen ősszel. Mivel októberben volt az esküvőnk, minden évben ilyenkor próbálunk elutazni az ország valamely pontjára. Isten most is klassz, meleg idővel áldott meg minket. Fura volt gyerkőcök nélkül, de így olyan dolgokat is megtehettünk, amiket máskor nem, például:

Playing billiards (I have to admit that my hubby beat me in the game big time, but I tried to enjoy it anyway! :)
Billiárdoztunk (igaz, hogy férjecském lealázott a játékban, de azért próbáltam jó bulinak felfogni a dolgot! :)
Playing a game on the terrace of a coffee shop (Matthew won here too, but only by accident - yes, as you can tell, I am pretty competitive! :)
Játszottunk egy kávézó nyitott teraszán (itt is Matt nyert, de csak véletlenül - igen, ebből kitalálhatjátok, a játékokban a nyerésre megyek! :)
On the way home, eating lunch at a little pizza place with this view (recognize it, Aaron??)
Hazafelé ebédeltünk egy kis pizzériában ezzel a kilátással (na, ki ismeri fel??)

These two days were great but it was good to get the kids back and return to our "normal" life! :)
Szép volt, jó volt a két nap, de jó volt utána visszakapni a gyerkőcöket és visszatérni a "normális" életünkbe! :)

Announcement/Szolgálati közlemény

Hope you enjoyed it that we posted lots of things recently. Now, however, we won't be around computers for a few days. After non-stop ministry/work, we will take a few days off to celebrate our anniversary. See ya later! :)

Reméljük, tetszett, hogy ilyen sűrűn írtunk az elmúlt napokban. Most viszont egy pár napig nem leszünk gépközelben. A megállás nélküli szolgálat/munka után pár napra eltűnünk házassági évfordulót ünnepelni. Jó őszi szünetet (akinek van ilyen)! :)

Tesók/Brothers

The two kids have been getting on really well lately. We had a few months when there was a lot of friction between them, but these days they enjoy each other's company and except for a little bickering here and there, can be real fun and cute together. We have been very busy lately with outreach teams, Matthew doing a concert, teaching/translation, etcetra. The boys have actually enjoyed the activities and having lots of company around.

The other day Oliver got out the camera and took a few pictures of his brother. Some of them turned out pretty well. I thought I would share them with you (the last one is my favorite! :)

A két gyerkőc nagyon jól kijön egymással mostanában. Volt néhány súrlódásos hónap köztük, de a mostani egy olyan időszak, amikor élvezik egymás társaságát és néhány összetűzéstől eltekintve nagyon jópofák és aranyosak együtt. Mostanában igen elfoglaltak voltunk: két szolgáló csapat is jött hozzánk, Matt koncertezett, tanítás/fordítás és egyebek. A srácok pedig nagyon élvezik a nyüzsgést és a rengeteg vendéget.

A minap Olivér előszedte a fényképezőgépét és készített pár képet a tesójáról. Néhány egész jól sikerült. Gondoltam, megosztom veletek is (az utolsó a kedvencem! :)
PS: You may have noticed that in the pictures of the last three posts the kids are wearing the same outfits. It's really not because they only have one change of clothing but the pictures were taken on the same day. :)

UI: Talán feltűnt, hogy a gyerekek ugyanabban a ruhában vannak az előző három bejegyzés képein. Tényleg van több mint egy váltás ruhájuk, csak ugyanazon a napon készültek a képek! :)

Koncert/Concert

Matt tegnap tartott egy koncertet néhány barátjával, ahová meghívtak egy csomó deszkás srácot és másokat, akik felé mi és az itt lévő csapatok szolgáltunk. Volt zúzós zene és lazább, keresztény dalok és nem keresztények egyaránt. Volt egy rövid beszéd, nasi, üdítő, minden ami kell. Nagyon jó volt a hangulat és azt hiszem, sok ember érdeklődését felkeltették Isten és a hit iránt. A gyerekeket is elvittük és nagyon jól érezték magukat. :)

Matthew and his friends did a concert yesterday where they invited a lot of skateboard kids and others that we and the outreach teams have been ministering to. They did rock and lighter styles, Christian songs and non-Christian ones. There was a short time of sharing, snacks, soft drinks, etc. The atmosphere was great and I think a lot of people got interested in God and faith. We took the kids along too and they had a great time!

Mindkét gyermekünket nagyon érdekli a zene (azt hiszem, aki ismer minket, ezen csöppet sem csodálkozik! :). A koncert előtt Olivérnek megengedték, hogy kipróbálja a dobszerkót!

Both of our kids are really interested in music (I think those of you who know us are not surprised one bit! :). Before the concert Oliver was allowed to try out the drum kit!

PS: Playing the drums was fun, but my boys have fallen in love with another instrument since then. But this will be the topic of another post...

Couch/Kanapé

Someone donated to us an old couch that we will use in the basement as a guest bed. However, until the work down there is finished, we'll keep the couch in our living room. The other day the boys used it for a rather interesting purpose. Here it is:

Kaptunk valakitől egy régi kanapét amit a pincében fogunk használni vendégágyként. Addig amíg nem vagyunk kész a munkával lent, a kanapé a nagyszobánkban csücsül. A minap a fiúk egy érdekes célra használták a bútordarabot. Íme:
PS: Yes, Oliver is in his underwear! He is our American boy, who is not cold running around half-naked when we are all wearing sweaters! :)

UI: Igen, Olivér kisgatyóban van! Ő az amerikai gyerekünk, aki télvíz idején félmeztelenül sem fázik, míg mi mind pulcsiban vagyunk! :)

For the first time in my life.../Először életemben...

...I can vote in the US election! We received our absentee ballots a few days ago. It is pretty exciting!!! No, I am not going to start a political debate here, just wanted to share this with you. I am excited even after Matthew told me that they don't count absentee ballots unless there is a small enough margin between the candidates...oh well! :)

...szavazhatok az amerikai elnökválasztáson! Pár napja kaptuk meg a szavazókártyánkat postán. Nagyon izgalmas!!! Nem, nem fogok itt politikai vitába bocsátkozni, csak el akartam nektek újságolni ezt a hírt. Izgatott vagyok annak ellenére, hogy Matt elmondta: a távollévők szavazatait csak akkor számolják meg, ha túl kicsit a különbség a jelöltek között...no nem baj! :)

Sudoku

Gondoltam, bemutatom, hogy mivel játszik Olivér mostanság. Az első egy Sudoku nevű játék gyerekváltozata. Első körben kis képeket kell kirakni úgy, hogy mindenből egy legyen egy sorban:

I thought I would show you the games Oliver plays with these days. The first is the child-version of a game called Sudoku. As the first step, you have to arrange the little pictures on the tiles so there is only one of each kind in one row/column.

Persze nem vagyok elfogult, de szerintem Olivér nagyon hamar elsajátította a játékok lényegét. Egyelőre nem jelent gondot segíteni neki. De van egy olyan érzésem, hogy nemsokára ő fog nekem magyarázni! Formában kell tartanom az agyamat! :)

Of course I am not biased, but I think Oliver mastered the tasks very quickly. At this point it's not a challenge to help him, but I have a feeling that pretty soon he will be the one explaining things to me! I have to keep my brain fit! :)

In Hungary there are plans to change the highway code. This would include how drivers should approach pedestrian crossings (a.k.a zebras) without a traffic light, i.e. they would have to slow down to 30 km/h (just like at railway crossings) and stop even when a pedestrian is WAITING on the sidewalk to cross. According to current regulations, they HAVE TO stop if the pedestrian has stepped down from the sidewalk and is crossing the road. To be honest, I am a bit skeptical about the new rule. I am frequently in the role of a pedestrian in our city, which is not even the capital with crazy traffic, but only a county seat. I am on the street shepherding two minors, not to mention the bicycle, the motorcycle/stroller, the shopping bag and other accessories; therefore I can proudly claim that I am one of the special people to be taken care of on the road, together with the old man walking with a stick and the fellow-citizen in the wheelchair. And really, I don't want to complain: there ARE some drivers who stop when we are crossing the road. Moreover, there are some who stop EVEN WHEN we are still standing on the sidewalk and politely wave for us to go ahead. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their kindness.

This post, however, is not about kind drivers, but about those who zip through the crossing when we - and our fellow pedestrians - are on the road. Today something quite scary happened. I was on my way home with the above mentioned two minors (and our accessories). We were crossing the road on a zebra when a car approached from the right (which we couldn't see before as it was coming up a hill). We were at least half-way across and it was coming quite slowly, so I was SURE that it would stop. And guess what: it did NOT stop!!! I am not joking, the car was so close to us that it could hardly squeeze between us and the other side of the road! And I am not sure if the driver was just pretending not to see us but they were looking straight ahead as if they had not seen us at all!!! Augh, they must have got their licence from the black market!!! (Yes, I am purposefully not writing down the gender, not to offend anyone! :) My heart skipped a beat and I yelled at Oliver (riding his bike next to me) to stop! I am serious, if my child is a little less obedient (yes, I am praising my parenting skills right now), for Grandma's sake I don't want to write down what could have happened! (Hi Carol! We are all fine! :)

Epilogue: Oliver was quite disturbed by the whole event. When we got home, he asked the following question: "Mama, are blind people allowed to drive?" That's right! I had not thought of this possibility before! Maybe the driver was blind! In that case, I apologize for my sarcastic tone!!!

Tudomásom szerint módosul a KRESZ: többek között szigorítani fogják azt is, hogyan kell a gyalogátkelőhelyeket megközelíteni (le kell lassítani 30 km/h-ra mint a vasúti átkelőknél illetve meg kell állni akkor is, ha a gyalogos nemhogy lelépett, csak ott ÁLL a járdán). Meg kell valljam, hogy kicsit szkeptikus vagyok ezzel kapcsolatban. Sokat közlekedem gyalogosan házunk táján, ami ugye nem is az őrült forgalmú főváros, csak egy megyeszékhely. Általában két kiskorú személyt terelgetek (nem is beszélve a bicikliről, babakocsiról/kismotorról, bevásárlószatyorról és egyéb tartozékainkról), tehát mondhatom, hogy a "Vigyázzunk rájuk!" matrica szereplői vagyunk a bottal járó bácsi és a kerekesszékes polgártárs mellett. És nem akarok panaszkodni, tényleg VANNAK olyanok, akik megállnak, mikor a zebrán megyünk át. Akad olyan is, aki MÁR AKKOR megáll, mikor a járdán várakozunk, és előzékenyen int, hogy menjünk. Nekik ezúton is köszönöm a kedvességüket!

Azonban ez a bejegyzés nem a kedves sofőrökről szól... Hanem azokról, akik áthúznak a zebrán akkor is, amikor mi (és gyalogostársaink) már megkezdtük az áthaladást. Ma történt egy hátborzongató eset. Az említett két kiskorúval (és tartozékainkkal) haladtam át a zebrán, amikor jobbról megjelent egy autó, akit addig nem láttunk, mert a domb takarásában volt. Elég lassan jött, mi pedig már az út felénél jártunk, úgyhogy BIZTOS voltam benne, hogy megáll. És képzeljétek, NEM állt meg!!! Nem viccelek, olyan közel húzott el előttünk, hogy épphogy befért közénk és az útpadka közé! És nem tudom, hogy a vezető csak jó színész volt-e vagy TÉNYLEG nem vett észre, de úgy nézett előre, mintha valóban nem látott volna minket!!! Öhmm, jogsi az Ecseri piacról?? Tényleg megállt bennem az ütő és ráordítottam Olivérre (aki mellettem tekert a bicajon), hogy álljon meg! Nem viccelek, ha kevésbé jólnevelt a gyerekem (igen, most hazabeszélek! :), akkor...na, ne folytassuk Nagyi idegei miatt, jó? (Szia Anyu! Ne aggódj, jól van mindenki! :)

Epilógus: Olivér is eléggé megijedt az eset kapcsán, és látszott, hogy elgondolkoztatta a dolog. Mikor hazaértünk, ezzel a kérdéssel állt elő: "Mama, a vak emberek is vezethetnek?" Tényleg, erre nem is gondoltam!!! Lehet, hogy vak volt a sofőr! Ez esetben elnézést kérek a feldúlt hangnemért!!!

Ráadásul magyar olvasóinknak egy lefordíthatatlan Olivér aranyköpés. Étkezésnél megkérdezi: "Mama, azért hívják ezt majonéznek, mert banánból készült?" (Értitek?? Majonéz = majoméz, majom méz! Hahaha! :))

Nyelvelsajátítás/Language acquisition

Benjámin mostanában nagyon megindult a nyelvelsajátítás útján. Érdekes, hogy a gyerekek fejlődése sokszor nem lineáris, hanem van, hogy stagnál, aztán hirtelen megugrik, mintha "bekattanna" nekik valami (lehet, hogy írok majd erről egy cikket ha lesz egy kis időm! :) Nála is így történt: jópár hónapig nem volt számottevő változás és azt hiszem frusztrálta is, hogy nem tudta magát kifejezni. Mostanában viszont azok is észreveszik rajta a fejlődést, akikkel rendszeresen találkozunk. Teljes gondolatokat ki tud fejezni viszonylag érthető módon (pl. "Mama haja hosszú - Benjámin nem - Daddo vágta" stb). Nagyon izgi! :) Az aktív szókincse főleg magyar, de angolul is sok mindent megért és gyúrunk is rá rendesen, mert karácsonykor megyünk Amcsiba, és klassz lenne, ha tudna csevegni a családdal! :)

Sok dolog van persze, amit elsőre nem értünk és csak a szövegkörnyezet segítségével tudjuk kitalálni, hogy miről is van szó. A legügyesebb ebben Olivér, aki sokszor a tolmács szerepét tölti be a testvére mellett! :)

Gondoltam, próbára teszem olvasóink kreativitását, ezért itt van egy szó, amiről eleinte fogalmunk sem volt, hogy mi lehet. Ez pedig a következő:

"lelo-popopopo"

Na? Melyikőtökben rejtőzik nyelvésztehetség?

Igen, a helyes válasz a "rajzolni, színezni" szó! Benjámin szókincsében ugyanis ezt jelenti a fenti kifejezés! Hogy honnan jött - fogalmunk sincs! De vicces, nem? :)

Benjamin has gone through tremendous improvement in his language acquisition. It's interesting how children's development is sometimes not linear but tends to stagnate for a while, then improves rapidly, like something "clicked" for them (maybe I'll write an article on this when I have some time :). This happened in BG's case too: for a few months no significant improvement was seen in his language skills and I think he was frustrated because he couldn't express himself the way he wanted to. But now even those who see him regularly notice the change. He can express complete thoughts in a semi-comprehensible way (e.g. "Mamma hair long - Benjamin no - Daddo cut" etc.) It's very exciting! :) His active vocabulary is mainly Hungarian, but he understands a lot in English and we are working hard on his skills so he can talk to the family when we visit for Christmas! :)

There are of course many things that we don't understand right away and only the context gives us a clue as to what he is trying to say. The best person in this is Oliver, who often acts as translator for his little brother! :)

I thought I would put our readers' imagination to a test, so here is a word BG started using that took us a while to figure out. Here it is:

"lelo-popopopo"

So? Who's got hidden linguistic gifts?

That's right, the correct answer is "to draw, to color"! This is what the above word means in Benjamin's vocabulary! Where he got it from - we have no idea! But it's funny, isn't it?

I'm Alive

Hello,

I (Matthew) am writing this: Yes it's the first time I've posted since April. Pathetic, no? I've thought of about 20 great posts since then, but sorry, I've kept them all to myself. I hope I can contribute to this blog more often so that it doesn't become a single mom's blog. So, here goes a fresh start:

Check out this video from one of my favorite bands from the 80's. How many of you remember "all you zombies hide your faces . . . ?" Here are the Hooters . . . don't laugh. They existed as a band a few years before that restaurant with the same name opened its doors and took their name from a German wind instrument. Gotta love this song . . . .

Please hold on when the bus is moving!/Kérjük, mozgó buszon kapaszkodjon!

Here is another interesting sleeping picture of Benjamin. Apparently he is so active even in his sleep, that he has to hold on! :)

Work/Munka

There has been several projects going on around our house. One of them is the transformation of our basement from a bare cellar to a nice studio/guest room. The work has been well underway, mainly by Matthew and a friend of ours, Szilveszter, who knows just about everything about construction work. One of the rooms was actually ready to be painted, so I went down with the boys to help Daddo. Here are a few photographs of the hard workers.

Sok mindenen dolgozunk mostanában házunk táján. Az egyik ezek közül a pince átalakítása egy földdel teli lukból egy szép kis stúdióvá/vendégszobává. Már régen zajlik a munka, főleg Matt és egy barátunk, Szilveszter, jóvoltából, aki nagyjából mindent tud arról, ami egy házépítésnél zajlik.
