Then and now/Akkor és most

Here is a random "then and now" events from our lives recently.
Íme egy random "akkor és most" az életünk közelmúltbéli eseményeiből.

The boys had a Mother's Day program at their pre-school (yes, almost two months ago...). We took this picture in the school yard:

Note: Yes, I am wearing the same skirt on purpose. I do have more than one outfit to wear, though my wardrobe is nothing in comparison to my daughter's, who could practically wear a different outfit every day throughout the summer, due to generous donations from Grandma and my girlfriends with girls! :)

Megjegyzés: Igen, szándékosan vettem fel ugyanazt a szoknyát. Tényleg van egynél több ruhám, bár a ruhatáramat össze sem lehet hasonlítani a lányoméval, ő ugyanis gyakorlatilag minden nap más cuccot tudna felvenni egész nyáron, köszönhetően az amerikai nagyi és lányos anyuka barátnőim nagylelkű adományainak! :)

Visszajelzés/Feedback

Elnézést kérek a magyar nyelven olvasóktól, de ez a bejegyzés egyike a ritka lefordíthatatlan példányoknak. Arról van szó ugyanis, hogy pár hete megkaptam a tavalyi visszajelzéseket, amit a diákjaim írtak az óráimról (azt most ne firtassuk, hogy miért most adták oda ezeket: én már megszoktam, hogy kedves alma materem/volt munkahelyem malmai néha "kissé" lassan őrölnek). A legtöbb diák pozitív dolgokat írt ill. építő megjegyzéseket tett, amik tényleg hasznos visszajelzések, főleg, ha úgy alakul, hogy megint ott tanítanék majd. Volt azonban egy hallgató, aki igen érdekes dolgokat írt, például: túl sok (de tényleg, iszonyú sok, rengeteg!) volt a házi feladat, a tanárnő nagyon kedves és segítőkész, de úgy tanít, mint egy általános iskolában, illetve hogy ennyi feladatra csak azoknak van szüksége, akiknek az angoltudása erre rászorul (burkolt üzenet: "nekem nincs szükségem erre, én ezt már mind tudom"). A legviccesebb az, hogy mindezt olyan iszonyatos angolsággal fogalmazta meg, hogy igen nyilvánvaló volt, az illetőnek nagyon is szüksége van a tanulásra, akár még általános iskolai szinten is! :) Ha van akár egy alapfokú nyelvvizsgád 15 évvel ezelőttről, olvasd el nyugodtan az irományt, az angoltudásoddal kapcsolatos önbizalmad garantáltan növekedni fog! :)

A few weeks ago I got back the feedback sheets that my students wrote last year (don't ask me why I just got them; things go a tad bit slow at my alma mater/ex-workplace). Most of them had positive comments or constructive suggestions, which is really useful feedback, especially if I ever end up teaching there again. However, there was a person who wrote pretty interesting things, so I thought I would share their comments with you. Enjoy! :)

"I think that the homework was too much (really too much, 5-6 homeworks each week) and sometimes useless. She teaches like in a primary school. [this is my favorite! :)] But I repeat, she is a very kind person, but have to change a bit in her teaching method. I'm in English minor and this subject gives me such a lot of things to do that I didn't had time for my minor. I think that the exercises have to be complete only for these who have difficulties in this subject; and it don't have to be a problem if someone who already know something do his homework when he is interrogated [what??] He doesn't should have a "black point" for this, like in primary school [i.e. lack of homework counted in the assessment, but I didn't give any black points! :)]"

Clearly, this person needs absolutely no help with their English! :)

I did NOT do it again - Már megint NEM én voltam

After supper I did NOT let my baby crawl under her high chair (yes, she started crawling!!!) and eat the pieces of food she had dropped, so I can have a few moments to clean up and take care of my other two children. No, NOT me! :)

Vacsora után NEM engedtem, hogy babácskám az etetőszéke alá másszon (igen, elkezdett mászni!!!) és megegye a lepotyogtatott kajamaradékokat, hogy addig is legyen egy pár percem elpakolni és gondoskodni másik két gyermekemről. Nem, NEM én voltam! :)

American Week - Amerikai Hét

As Matthew was browsing through the ads for this week, his face lit up like that of a little kid at Christmas. One of the stores was advertising an American Week! So he went there promptly the next day and came home with this loot. Yummm! :)

Mikor Matt lapozgatta a boltok e heti hirdetéseit, földerült az arca mint egy kisgyereké karácsonykor. Az egyik bolt ugyanis Amerikai Hetet hirdetett! Másnap el is ment vásárolni és ezzel a zsákmánnyal tért haza. Nyammm! :)

NOT me! - NEM én voltam!

Some people write "NOT me!" posts in which they share things they .... well, they did NOT do that week! Here is a little something from my life.

How did I get my baby to be peaceful and content while I do some much needed cleaning in the kitchen?

Well, I let her grab and chew on this:

Vannak emberek, akik "NEM én voltam!" bejegyzéseket írnak, amelyekben közzétesznek dolgokat, melyeket...nos, NEM tettek meg azon a héten! Íme egy kis apróság az én életemből.

Hogyan értem el, hogy bébikém békés és elégedett legyen amíg én elvégzek egy igen időszerű takarítást a konyhában?


Nos, megengedtem, hogy elvegye és rágja ezt:

No, it wasn't the old toothbrush that I use in the bathroom to clean in the little nasty places! That would be gross! No, it was MY toothbrush! :)

Now if you are a mom with little kids, you can feel better about yourself, because I am sure you would NOT ever do such an unthinkable thing! (But if you have, confess it to me in a comment or an e-mail! :)

Nem, ez nem az a régi fogkefe volt, amit a fürdőszobában használok a kis undok koszok eltüntetésére! Az gusztustalan lenne! Nem, ez az ÉN fogkefém volt! :)


Most ha kisgyerekes anyuka vagy, rögtön jobban érezheted magadat, mert biztos vagyok benne, hogy te soha NEM követnél el egy ilyen szörnyűséges tettet! (De ha mégis, valld meg nekem egy megjegyzésben vagy e-mailben! :)

Egy kis baleset - A little accident

Ma történt egy kis baleset a játszótéren. Olivér átugrott a kerítésen, és valahogy rosszul landolt, ráesett a lábára és nagyon fájt neki. Nem is tudott ráállni. Most mi legyen? Gyalog vagyunk, Apa egy másik városban szolgál... Ott volt a játszón egy család, akikkel ma barátkoztunk össze. Nagyon kedvesek voltak, jót beszélgettünk. Felajánlották, hogy Olivér beülhet a két saját gyerekük mellé a kocsijukba és hazaviszik. Hú...csábító ajánlat...de nem ismerem őket!!! A nevüket sem tudom! Mi van, ha nem haza viszik Olivért??? [tudom, hogy paranoiás vagyok, de nem tudtam kiverni a gondolatot a fejemből, hogy bár icurka-picurka az esély rá, de hogyha most rosszul döntök, egy életre megbánhatom...]

Ezért kedvesen megköszöntem a felajánlást, és fájós lábú nagyfiam tanácsára inkább az alábbi módon ballagtunk haza:

We had a little accident today on the playground. Oliver jumped over the fence and didn't land right: he fell on his leg and was in great pain. He couldn't put weight on his leg. What should we do? We walked to the playground, Daddo is serving in another town... There was a family there whom we just met. They were very nice and we had a good conversation. They offered for Oliver to sit by their own two kids in their car and they would give him a ride home. Oh...tempting offer...but I don't know them!!! I don't even know their names! What if they take Oliver somewhere other than home??? [I know I am paranoid but I couldn't get the thought out of my mind that the chances are very-very small, but if I make a bad decision now, I will regret it for the rest of my life...]


So I kindly thanked them for their offer and took the advice of my injured boy who suggested we get home like this:

Szerintem pár kilót leadtam mire hazatoltam őket! Nem is baj! :) És ne aggódjatok, a nagyfiú jobban van és békésen szundikál az ágyikójában!

I think I lost a few pounds pushing them home like this! Good for me! :) And don't worry, the big boy is all better and peacefully snoozing in his bed!

Deutschland

Pár hete meglátogattuk Matt legjobb barátját Németországban. Még a főiskoláról ismerik egymást, a srác brit, a felesége amerikai, de most Németországban szolgálnak egy missziós szervezettel, úgyhogy régen készülünk arra, hogy kihasználjuk azt, hogy ilyen "közel" lakunk egymáshoz!

A few weeks ago we visited Matthew's best friend in Germany. They have known each other since college; he is British, she is American, but they now live in Germany, working with a mission organization. So we have been getting ready to make use of the fact that we live so "close" to each other!

Indulhatunk! - Let's go!

Nagyon jól éreztük magunkat együtt. Íme egy ritka pillanat: sikerült mind a hat gyerekünket egyszerre lencsevégre kapni!

We had a great time together. Here is a rare moment: we managed to take a photo of all our six kids at the same time!

És hogy mivel töltöttük a kb. 9-10 órás autózást?
And how did we spend the 9-10 hours (one way) in the car?

Játszottunk- We played

Néha aludtunk - Sometimes we slept

De főleg ettünk (nézzétek Miriam arcán a kölesgolyó és egyéb nyomokat)
But we mainly ate (notice all the smeared snack on Miriam's face)

A vitathatatlanul legviccesebb rész viszont az volt, mikor barchobáztunk és Benjáminin gondolt. Körülbelül így zajlott le a dolog:

Kitaláltuk, hogy egy emberre gondolt.
Lány.
Az oviba jár.
A csoportjukba.
Olivérrel rákérdezünk az összes kislányra.
A válasz mindegyikre: nem.
Olivér és én (kétségbeesve): Feladjuk, szabad a gazda! Ki az??
Mire ő: Ja, fiú! És az Alex!!!
O, M: Áááá! :))


Azt hiszem, még nem fogta fel teljesen a játék lényegét, de szórakoztató volt az biztos! :)
 
But the funniest part undoubtedly was playing "20 Questions" or "I spy" with Benjamin when he thought of something. This is about how it went:

We guessed that he thought of a person.
It's a girl.
She goes to their pre-school.
To their class. 
Oliver and I ask the names of all the girls in the class.
The answer to each question is no.
Oliver and I (in despair): We give up! Who is it??
To which BG responds: Oh, it's a boy! And it's Alex!!!
Oliver and I: Aaargh......


I don't think he quite grasps the basics of the game yet, but it was entertaining for sure! :)

Játékok - Games

Benjámin sokat nagyfiúsodott mostanában, fizikailag és mentálisan is. Például egyre inkább érdeklődik a "komoly" játékok iránt. A múltkor így találtam rájuk:

Benjamin has been developing into a big boy physically and mentally as well. For instance, he has been showing more interest in the "serious" games. This is how I found them the other day:

Ez egy "Tudnak repülni a malacok?" című nagysikerű társasjáték, amelyben állatok tulajdonságait kell azonosítani. "Van-e pikkelye a krokodilnak? Alszik-e téli álmot a vakond?" és hasonló fejtörők biztosítják a kihívást kicsiknek és nagyoknak egyaránt.

Azóta elkezdtük a Memória játékot is. Egyszer már Benjámin nyert! Nincs megállás! Pár év és három gyerek ver engem laposra a játékokban...

This is a board game entitled "Can pigs fly?", where you have to identify the characteristics of different animals. Questions like "Do crocodiles have scales? Does the mole sleep through the winter?" pose the challenge for big and small alike.

Since then, we have started playing Memory too. One time Benjamin won! There is no stopping from now on! In a few years I will be beaten by three kids in the games...

Sajtos dolgok/Cheesy stuff

A minap megkértem a fiúkat, hogy ugyan reszeljenek már egy kis sajtot a bolognai spagettihoz. Így találtam rájuk:

A few days ago I asked the boys to please grate some cheese for the spaghetti bolognese [isn't it how we spell this word? This thing keeps underlining it...]. This is how I found them:

Öhm...nos, nem igazán így képzeltem a dolgot! De persze mivel nálunk a konyhapadló mindig makulátlanul tiszta, nem okozott gondot ez a kis malőr. Na, ki jön hozzánk vendégségbe? :)

Uhm...well, that's not exactly what I had in mind! But of course since our kitchen floor is spotlessly clean at all times, no problem was caused by this little incident. So, who wants to come to our house for supper? :)

MAJDNEM mászik! - ALMOST crawling!

Oh no, I'm stuck again!

Greenery/Növényzet

Our grass keeps growing... Of course the weeds are coming diligently too, but it still is way better than dust and concrete!
A fű a kertben csak nő és nő... Persze jönnek a gyomok is gőzerővel, de még így is sokkal jobb mint a por és a beton!

Now that the seemingly never-ending rain finally did end, we can actually go outside. Here is Miriam consuming enjoying the rich greenery:

Ballagás/Graduation

Ahogy ígértem, íme pár kép Olivér ballagásáról. Bizony, iskolás lesz a nagyfiunk, és nagyon várja már! :)

Here are a few pictures of Oliver's graduation! He is very excited about going to school! (The system is a little different here than in the States: after pre-school, kids enter primary school - starting in first grade - at the age of 6 or 7)

A ballagási ajándékkal (benne minden klassz apróság, ami az iskolához kell majd: a szép ceruzának, tollnak meg radírnak nagyon örült Olivér, ő nagyon szereti az ilyen apróságokat. A füzet láttán kicsit meglepődött: bár nem láttam a filmet, de a "High School Musical" stílus tényleg nem tűnt a legjobb választásnak egy ovisnak... "Ez lányos!" jegyezte meg gyermekünk szomorúan, de leszedtük a borítót és azóta minden rendben! :)

With his graduation gift (in it there were cool thingies for school: he was really happy about the nice pen, pencil and eraser; he enjoys these a lot. However, he was a little surprised when he looked at the note pad: although I haven't seen the movie, the "High School Musical" style didn't look very appropriate for a pre-schooler..."This is girlie!" our child noted sadly, but we took the cover off and everything was fine! :)

A buli fénypontja lett volna, hogy kijön egy tűzoltóautó és szappanbuborékokat fúj, amikben a gyerekek ugrálnak. Egyszer volt már ebben részünk: óriási sár, csuromvizes gyerekek, de annyira klassz látni azt az örömöt az arcukon! :) Most sajnos valami szivattyúzáshoz vagy árvízmentéshez hívták el a tűzoltókat (Nem is értem?? Esőzés? Hol? Haha! Most szivattyúzza szegény Matt megint literszámra a vizet a stúdióból...), így a buborékozás elmaradt. De hamar kárpótolta őket a sok játék meg a süti az óvoda udvarán, nomeg a sprintelés hazafelé a szakadó esőben...

The highlight of the party would have been a fire engine coming and blowing bubbles for the kids, so they can jump around in it. We have done this once before: huge mud, soaked kids, but it is so cool to see the joy on their faces! :) This time unfortunately the fire fighters were called to some flood problems or what (I don't get it?? Rain? Where? Haha! Poor Matthew is pumping the water out from the studio again...), so the bubbles were canceled. However, the kids were soon consoled by the games and desserts on the playground of the school, and then by the fun running home in the pouring rain...

Position filled/Elkelt a fiú

Well, it seems like the position for Oliver's future bride has been filled. Yes, there is a girl at pre-school called Gabriella and there seem to be romantic ties developing between her and our firstborn. It started out as a friendship but now the teacher said (with a cheeky grin on her face) that they like to sit together with arms around each other. Oh my!!! :) At the pre-school graduation (pictures to follow) Gabi made sure she pointed out Oliver to her parents. She also invited us over to her house. AND, to top it off, I caught her tying Oliver's shoelaces! :)

Nos, úgy tűnik, vissza kell vonnom az előző ajánlatomat Olivér leendő menyasszonya számára. Az történt ugyanis, hogy elsőszülött gyermekünk és egy ovis kislány, Gabó, között romantikus szálak kezdenek szövődni. Először barátságnak indult a dolog, de aztán az óvónéni elmondta (arcán cinkos mosollyal), hogy szeretnek egymást átölelve üldögélni. Te jó ég!!! :) Az ovis ballagáson (amiről majd teszek fel képeket) Gabó nagyon figyelt arra, hogy a szülei biztosan tudják meg, ki is az az Olivér. Meg is hívott magukhoz. ÉS, mindezek tetejébe, rajtakaptam, hogy beköti Olivér cipőfűzőjét! :)

Here is a picture she drew for Oliver the other day. You can tell she is serious about him! :) (apparently he drew one for her too but I haven't seen that one - wonder what's on it?!)

Itt egy rajz, amit Gabó Olivérnek rajzolt pár napja. Láthatjátok, hogy komolyan gondolja a dolgot! :) (Olivér is rajzolt valamit neki, de azt nem láttam - kíváncsi vagyok, mi lehet rajta?!)

Too bad that from September, they will be attending different schools! I feel the imminent ending of a romance coming...


Be kár, hogy szeptembertől más iskolába fognak járni! Úgy érzem, a románcnak hamarosan végeszakad...

Oliver's new hobby/Olivér új hobbija

During nap time in the afternoon, when the two younger ones are fighting against falling asleep sneaking out of bed instead of sleeping peacefully resting with a smile on their faces, Oliver has his quiet time, when we play games, do projects or other relatively quiet activities.

A few days ago, however, he decided to do something different - see the picture below!

A délutáni alvásidő alatt, míg a két kicsi küzd az ellen, hogy elaludjon kimászik az ágyából alvás helyett békésen, mosollyal arcán szundikál, Olivérnek pihenőideje van, amikor játszunk, dolgozunk valamin vagy egyéb viszonylag csendes tevékenységet folytatunk.

Pár nappal ezelőtt viszont úgy döntött, valami mást csinál inkább. Íme:

Yes, it was his decision to try his hands at ironing and he did pretty well! I am working myself out of a job here! Yeah! :) (Mind you, ironing is a much bigger chore here, as our dryer is quite old and doesn't quite produce "ironed" clothes like those nice American ones :)

Any takers for him as a future husband? :) We take applications in about 20 years! :))

Igen, ő maga döntött úgy, hogy kipróbálja a vasalást és egész jól ment neki! Lassan átadhatom neki ezt a munkámat! Hurrá! :) (itt csak egy rövid magyarázatot fűztem mondandómhoz amerikai olvasóinknak, mert ott a vasalás nem nagy kaland, hiszen a szárítógépből nemcsak hogy szárazon, de gyakorlatilag vasalva érkeznek a ruhák...)


Nos, szóljatok, ha van valakinek házassági ajánlata elsőszülöttünk számára! :) Úgy 20 év múlva fogadjuk a jelentkezőket! :))
