Well, because according to the calendar we have two weeks until the arrival of the baby, we started getting ready. We "picked a cute theme, set up and decorated the nursery" (love these American terms! :) In our world "over here", that means Matthew putting together the crib in the corner of our bedroom :)), the boys and I started washing the baby clothes and we got back our car seat and 'Snuggli' carrier. I am also starting to pack away the maternity clothes (in the hopes that I will fit into at least some of my old clothes after the birth! :) Maybe all these don't seem to be a big deal to you, but somehow these practical things make the arrival of the baby very real and close! We are very excited!!! :))

Íme néhány kép a készülődésről.
Here are a few photos of the preparation.

We are back/Megjöttünk

Wow, lots of activity and comments on the blog while we were gone! :) Anyway, we are back safe and sound, me still in version 2in1. We had a good time at the conference: there was some great teaching, worship and fellowship. While I enjoyed all these, I have to admit that there were two other rather "carnal" reasons that made this week special for me. The first one is that this was the first conference where Matthew didn't have to run around all day, which made it possible for us to do special things like sitting down for a meal as a family or spend immense amounts of time (i.e. more than 10 minutes a day) together. Seriously, it was wonderful! :) The other reason was that for a whole week, I didn't have to shop, cook, do dishes and clean! I do love to serve my family and our frequently-appearing many visitors, but it was nice to take a break! Ladies, I am sure you understand my enthusiasm! :)

Another great thing is that I fulfilled my last responsibility at the university (a state exam on Wednesday), packed up my stuff at my office and handed in the keys! :) I did love teaching and I am sure I will miss it, but I am ready for my "next task" ahead! :)

Other news: as I mentioned, the baby is still inside and is doing well. Praise God! We are very excited about the new arrival and no, we still don't know the gender. I do have intuitions - we shall see if I was right! :) I am due on July 15 but I need to stay in hospital from the 10th (because of the doctors' (over?)cautiousness after my previous "wonderful" births - I can supply more details personally or via e-mail if you are interested). This is not very uplifting but 5 days is nothing compared to the initial plan of 2 weeks! Really, anything is nothing (got it?) considering the fact that we will receive another bundle of joy! After my previous "birth experiences" my motto is: "I will survive anything!!!" And with God's help, I hope it will be so! :)

Lányok, ugye értitek a lelkesedésemet? :)

Summer fun/Nyári móka

We won't be around the computer for a while, as we are going to a family conference tomorrow. So I thought I would post a few random pictures of the last few weeks, should you miss us. Enjoy! :)

At the end-of year party at Oliver's school they had this bubble machine, which was operated by a fire truck! Needless to say, the kids were thrilled (and really wet and muddy too)! :)

Oliver on Lightning McQueen (Benjamin got on too when the car was stationary, but chickened out when it started moving).

Note: I am a really stingy mom, because for 5 years I didn't tell my kids that you can actually put money in these things to make them move. Unfortunately they figured it out... :)

A friend of ours found this guy in his yard and knowing about Oliver's interest in bugs, brought it over in a jar. However, after learning that it was a protected species and seeing its discomfort, we let it free.

Eating out in the skate park where Matthew goes to minister to the kids
Falatozás a deszkás parkban, ahova Matt jár szolgálni a srácok felé
We took our guests on a boat ride on a lake in the neighboring town
Elvittük a vendégeinket hajózni a Tatai tóra
Cooling off in our friends' pool
Hűsítő pancsizás barátaink medencéjében
And one of the fun things of the summer: eating watermelon in swimtrunks
És az elmaradhatatlan nyári élmény: dinnyézés fürdőgatyóban
Sweet dreams after all the adventures!
Ennyi kaland után édes a pihenés!

Children's Day/Gyereknap

Children's Day is celebrated in this part of the world on a Sunday at the end of May. They have special programs and other fun things to do for kids. After the big day, one of the daily papers in Veszprém had this headline:

Olvassátok a veszprémi napilapokat? Hogy nem? Nos, ez komoly hiba, ugyanis ha olvasnátok, gyereknap alkalmából a következő címlappal találtátok volna szembe magatokat:
Do you recognize him?? :) Well, it's easy with a photographer uncle! Have I mentioned that we are on our way to world fame?!

Na, ismerős?? :) Hát igen, könnyű annak, akinek a nagybácsija fotós! Említettem már, hogy elindultunk a világhír felé?!

Szekrény/Wardrobe

Nézzétek meg figyelmesen ezt a képet. Láttok rajta valami érdekeset?
Look at this picture carefully. Can you see anything interesting?

Anyák napja/Mothers' Day

Yes, I know, Mother's Day is old stuff, especially here (it's a week earlier than in the States) but I thought I would share that Oliver had a program at his school and they did great. It is amazing how many poems, songs, rhymes these little kids can memorize in such a short time - in Hungary, this is very common and I find it very useful for their development. And the other reason for the post is that this is our blog, so if I'm proud of my firstborn baby's (but really all the kids') brilliant performance, I have the right to brag about it, don't I? :))

Olivér mondja a verseket a barátaival (nézzétek meg a laza zsebredugott kezet :)
Oliver saying his poems with his friends (notice the casual "hand in pocket" style :)

Repül a gólya, teli a motyója

Another thing I wanted to share is that the teacher picked a really appropriate poem for Oliver to say individually. He was really cute!!! :) Here is a raw translation (sorry, but I never claimed literary translation as my gift, so you have to do with this :)

The stork is flying, his pack is full
He keeps his word and brings the baby

Cause he promised that he would fetch it

Mom can hardly wait, her arms are open

Baby flies in and everything is revealed:

Cause it's a secret, right?

Will it be a brother or sister?

PS: Sorry that there is no video and that we haven't posted any recently. The reason is unfortunately that it is impossible to publish these. I know there are videos on other blogs, but believe me, I have tried a dozen times to post these little half a minute videos and they simply cannot be uploaded. Before you think I am a total technological failure, let me say that Matthew has also tried it recently and did not succeed after attempting it several times! :( I don't want to give up, but to be honest, I have no energy and patience to keep struggling with this. If you have any suggestions, they are certainly welcome!

Nemrég készült egyik kedvenc elfoglaltsága, a fáramászás közben. Micsoda jóképű pasi! :)

I just thought I would share this photo of Oliver because I like it a lot. It was taken recently during one of his favorite activities: tree climbing. What a handsome guy! :)
And another picture from almost six years ago...are they similar? :)

This daydreaming look reminded me of an interesting thing. Last year after Oliver started pre-school I asked his teacher what her impression was, whether there were any problems with him, etc. Her answer was about the following:

"Oh, there are no problems, Oliver likes it at the school, he adapted quickly, he has good abilities, we can tell he has a good home background, etc. He is not lonely, but many times prefers playing by himself to joining other kids in their activities. I and the other teacher often watch him as he is sitting on the carpet, daydreaming, completely spaced out ... we have no idea 'where he is' those times..."

I was very glad to hear the teacher's opinion but started laughing when she said the last sentence as no kidding, these were the exact same words Matthew's mom had used when describing Matthew at about the same age!!! (right, Carol? :) Oliver may look more like me on the outside, but -praise God! - inside he is just like his dad: a very calm, well-balanced, loving, daydreaming smart little guy! :)

Our faithful readers may recall an account of our visit to some cats last year (in case you want to refresh your memory, you can click here). Well, as it is quite normal in a cat's life I guess, this year new kittens arrived to our friends. We of course went to visit them. Here are a few photos of the event.

PS: No, we didn't bring home any, thank goodness! I humbly admit that none of the adult members of our family are cat lovers (and this was a euphemism), Matthew is allergic to them, not to mention that the neighbor's dog has been barking significantly less recently, which we wouldn't like to change for the world! :)

Fiúk/Boys

Figyelmeztetés: Bár az előző bejegyzésben elújságoltam, hogy teljesen pelenka-mentesek lettünk, ebben a kis szösszenetben mégis utalni fogok bizonyos testnedvekre. Folytatás csak saját felelősségre! :)

Olivér mostanában visszatért a színezéshez.

O: Mama, nyomtatnál nekem mégegyet ebből a Kisvakondos színezőből?
M: Miért, mi történt?
O: Tudod, kilyukadt a papír.
M: Hogyhogy?
O: Ja, hát, mikor tüsszentettem, a takony ráment a papírra, tovább színeztem és a ceruza kilyukasztotta! :)

Ááá!!! Szuper! :))

Warning: even though I announced it proudly in the previous entry that we are completely diaper-free, this little piece of writing will contain reference to certain body fluids. Continue at your own risk! :)

Oliver has picked up coloring again recently. During his rest-time in the afternoon, he often resorts to this quiet and admittedly calming pastime. Yes, that's right, sometimes, when I have time, but more when I feel like it, I join him in this activity as well. :) The kids are usually so grateful when we share in what they are doing - I wish I did it more instead of running after my own jobs...

But anyway, I digress. The other day Oliver asked me the following question:

O: Mama, can you print another copy of this Little Mole coloring page?

M: Why, what happened?

O: You know, there is a hole in the paper.

M: But why?

O: Oh, well, when I sneezed, the snot landed on the paper, and I went on coloring and then the pencil put a hole in the paper! :)

Yikes!!! Great! Seriously, life is an experience with three guys around!!! (And this number can increase to four in a few weeks! :)) And girls just sit in the corner for hours, quietly changing the outfits on their dolls from the frilly to the lacy and then from the lacy to the frilly one. They don't, right??? Well, we may see this too! :))
