Benjamin

Benjamin is a great little guy. He is quite a character: he can be the clown and crack us up, but he also has a very gentle side. I thought I would share a funny thing he said recently.

We constantly give away and receive clothes for the kids from people at the church and other friends. It's beautiful to see God provide for several families this way and we/they hardly spend any money on children's clothes. Anyway, the exception is of course underwear and socks (and in the boys' cases, pants, as they are in a pretty bad shape - especially at the knees - by the time they outgrow them! I heard that girls are different in this: we shall see! :)

Anyway, the other day I told Benjamin that his underwear (the rocket one!) is quite small and that he can throw it into the trash at bath time. I thought he would like the idea but instead he said:

"No, Mama, I want to save it as a memory for my children!!!"

Haha! :))

I can see him 60 years from now, sitting around the fire with his grandkids:
"And look, children, this was Grandpa's underwear when he was four years old!"


Benjámin egy szuper kis fickó. Óriási egyéniség: egy kis bohócka, akin nagyokat nevetünk, ugyanakkor van egy nagyon gyengéd oldala is. Gondoltam, elmesélek nektek egy vicces dolgot, amit nemrégiben mondott.

Állandóan adogatjuk és kapjuk a gyerekruhákat a gyüliből és más barátoktól. Csodás azt látni, hogy Isten hogy gondoskodik sok családról és hogy alig kell nekik/nekünk pénzt költeni a gyerkőcök ruhájára. A kivétel persze az alsóneműk és zoknik (illetve a fiúk esetében a nadrágok, mert mire kinövik őket, igencsak ramaty állapotban vannak, főleg a térdeknél. Úgy hallottam, a lányok mások ebben - no majd meglátjuk! :)

Nos, pár napja mondtam neki, hogy a kisgatyója (a rakétás!) már elég kicsi rá és este fürdéskor kidobhatja a szemetesbe. Gondoltam, ez tetszeni fog neki, de ehelyett ezt mondta:

- Nem, Mama, el akarom tenni emlékbe a gyerekeimnek!!!

Haha! :))

Elképzelem, ahogy 60 év múlva üldögél az unokáival a kandalló mellett:
- Gyerekek, nézzétek! Ez volt a Nagypapa alsógatyója négy éves korában!

Oliver is making some new friends at school. One of them is Gergő. We have met him and his family too. It's very interesting because they live in our neighborhood, have three kids: boy-boy-girl (all born a few weeks before ours respectively) and they are Christians ("Mama, I think there is another believer in my class! He sang "Jesus, Prince of Peace, glory, halleluja!" at our Music class!" - it's a regular state school in town...). So if we stay in the same town, our kids can go to school together for the next 14 years! :)

Anyway, Gergő's mom told me a funny story. When Gergő was 2 years old, he really liked numbers. He could count from 1 to 10 with some mistakes. However, he could count from 8 backwards perfectly!!!

What was the reason for this interesting ability?

Any ideas??

Well, what happened is that they built a fitness center right next door to their house (I actually go there to exercise once a week...or once every two weeks...OK, whenever I can!). So as the little guy was playing in the yard, he heard the instructors go several times a day:

"Eight! ... Seven! ... Six!... OK! Five more! ... Four!...Come on, girls!...Three!...And two!... One more!..." and he learned to count this way!!!

I think this is so funny! :) Maybe not for the family, who have to listen to this, but I think it makes a good story!


Olivérnek már van egy pár barátja a suliban. Az egyikük Gergő, akinek a családját is megismertük már. Nagyon érdekes, mert egy környéken lakunk, nekik is három gyerekük van fiú-fiú-lány felállásban (mindannyian pár héttel idősebbek a mieinknél páronként - ha értitek mire gondolok) és ők is keresztények ("Mama, azt hiszem, van még egy hívő gyerek az osztályban! Azt énekelte énekórán, hogy "Jézus, hajnalcsillag, glóri, halleluja!" - egy mezei állami iskoláról van szó...). Úgyhogy ha ebben a városban maradunk, a gyerekeink együtt járhatnak iskolába az elkövetkezendő 14 évben! :)

Gergő anyukája mesélt egy érdekes történetet. Mikor Gergő 2 éves volt, nagyon szerette a számokat. El tudott számolni 1-től 10-ig kisebb hibákkal. Nyolctól visszafelé viszont hibátlanul el tudott számolni!!!

Mi volt az oka ennek az érdekes képességnek?

Mit gondoltok???

Nos, az történt, hogy a szomszéd telken felépítettek egy fitness klubot (én is oda járok tornára hetente...na jó, kéthetente...OK, szóval amikor sikerül eljutnom! :). Úgyhogy mikor a kiscsákó kint játszott az udvaron, hallotta az oktatókat naponta többször:

"Nyolc! ... Hét! ... Hat! ... OK! Még öt! ... Négy! ... Gyerünk, lányok! ... Három! ... És kettő! ... Még egy! ..." és megtanult így számolni!!!

Szerintem ez nagyon vicces! :) Lehet, hogy a családnak nem annyira, hogy ezt kell hallgatniuk, de egy jó sztori lett belőle mindenesetre!

Nos, úgy döntöttem, hogy azokon az estéken, mikor van időm és ihletem blogot írni, de a kedves rendszer nem enged feltölteni képeket (mostanában sok ilyen van), majd "képtelen" szösszeneteimmel örvendeztetlek meg benneteket.

Ma este - többek kérdéseire válaszolva - Miriam fejlődéséről lesz szó.

Nem, még mindig nem jár. Vezetgetve lépeget. De neki a közlekedés a mászás.
Nem, még mindig nem beszél. Szavakat sem mond. Szótagokat sem. Semmi érthetőt.
Új fogakat sem növesztett már hónapok óta: még mindig négy van neki.
Nem cigánykerekezik, könyvet sem ír és a jogsit sem szerezte még meg.

DE MI ÍGY IS SZERETJÜK!!!

És ígérem, nem fog mászva, gagyogva és négy foggal érettségizni! :)

Well, I have decided that on the nights when I have the time and the inspiration to blog but the dear system doesn't let me upload pictures (it has happened often recently), I will delight you with my "imageless" ramblings.

Tonight I will answer some questions we receive about Miriam's development.

No, she is not walking yet. She takes steps when we hold her hands. But her transportation is crawling.
No, she is not talking yet. She doesn't say words either. Nor syllables. Nothing comprehensible.
She hasn't grown any new teeth in the last few months: she still has four.
She doesn't do cartwheels, write books and she still doesn't have her driver's license.

BUT WE LOVE HER ANYWAY!!!

And I promise that she won't graduate high school crawling, babbling and with four teeth! :)

Suli - School

Olivér nagyon szeret iskolába járni. A "szabadnapjait" (vagyis a hétvégét) sem várja, sőt, tegnap és ma is csinálgattunk feladatokat az itthoni gyakorlókönyveiből - puszta önszorgalomból. Remélem, ennek a lelkesedésnek a töredéke kitart az érettségiig! :) Nagyon klassz a tanító nénije is, tapasztalt (33 éves gyakorlattal ugyanabban az iskolában!) de abszolút nyitott az új módszerekre és nagyon szereti a gyerekeket.

Gondoltam, elmesélek két kis történetet Olivérrel kapcsolatban.

Az első, hogy nagy boldogan mesélte, hogy az iskola udvarán szóba elegyedett vele egy hetedikes fiú. Nem volt nagy beszélgetés, csak elmondták egymásnak, ki hányadikos, de Olivér úgy emlegette az esetet, mintha legalábbis a miniszterelnökkel folytatott volna személyes beszélgetést! :)

A másik kis esemény akkor történt, amikor Olivér visszament a suliba megkeresni az elveszett(nek hitt) sapkáját (vagy kabátját? pulcsiját? Ezekből ugyanis legalább egy tucatot hagyott ott az első hetekben, bár aztán meglett az összes! :) Bolyongott a folyósón, mikor észrevette, hogy két nagyobb (hatodikos? hetedikes?) lány figyeli és az egyik azt mondja a másiknak: "Nézd, de cuki!" :)))

Nos, én azt hittem, biztos megsértődött ezen (azt például nem annyira szereti, ha én cukizom...) de hót' boldogan és büszkén mesélte el! Anyukám szerint: "Na, elkezdődött, hogy a lányok cukinak tartják a fiadat! Készítheted a fakanalat!" Így is lesz!!! :))


Oliver loves going to school. He doesn't look forward to his "days off" (i.e., the weekend); moreover, yesterday and today we did a few tasks from his workbooks at home - totally his own initiation. I hope a fraction of this enthusiasm remains till his high school graduation! :) His teacher is great: she is very experienced (with 33 years of teaching practice in the same school!) but is absolutely open to new methods and loves the kids a lot.

I thought I would share two little stories about Oliver.

The first is when he came home happily saying that in the school yard he had a chat with a seventh-grader boy. It wasn't a big conversation, they only told each other which classes they go to, but Oliver was talking about it as if he had a private audition with the prime minister! :)

The second story happened when Oliver went back to the school building to look for his lost (and then found) hat (or coat? sweater? He lost about a dozen of these during the first few weeks, though they were all found later! :) He was wandering in the hallway when he noticed two older girls (sixth- or seventh-graders?) watching him. Then one turned to the other and said: "Look! He is so cute!" :)))


Well, I thought he would surely be offended by this (since he doesn't really like it when I call him cute...) but he was very happy and proud! As my mom put it: "See, girls have started calling your son cute! You can get the wooden spoon ready!" And I will!!! :))

Hair - Haj

Speaking of hair, we did have to get Miriam's bangs cut a few days ago. I had been trying to keep the hair out of her eyes with the help of hair clips and what not, but to no avail! We have probably lost dozens of these gadgets around our town! (If you have found them, you may keep them now, thank you!) Now she can play around and actually see! :) Oh, and at the hairdresser she didn't cry one bit!  OK, it only lasted around two minutes, so probably by the time she recognized the opportunity for crying or throwing a fit, she was done! :)

Apropó, haj: pár nappal ezelőtt le kellett vágatnunk Miriam frufruját (micsoda fura szó, nem? :)! Próbáltam addig csatokkal és egyéb szerkentyűkkel eltávolítani a haját a szeméből, de mindhiába! Szerintem tucatnyi ilyen kütyürét hagytunk el városszerte! (Ha megtaláltad őket, most már nyugodtan megtarthatod, köszi! :) Így most tud játszani és még látni is! :) Ja, és nem sírt a fodrásznál! Na jó, az egész tarthatott olyan kettő percig, úgyhogy valószínűleg mire rájött, hogy lehetősége nyílt a sírásra vagy hisztire, már kész is volt! :)

Fürtös Kisasszony - Miss Curly

Végre sikerült egy közeli képet készítenem Miriam fürtjeiről. Mindig szembefordult velem, mikor a géppel közelítettem, de aztán sikerült lekötnöm a figyelmét.

Bizony nem kis munka fél órával korábban kelni minden reggel, hogy becsavarjam a haját, de megéri!

Na jó, csak vicceltem!!! :) Mindenesetre a mi családunkban nem fordultak eddig elő ilyen tincsek, így nem fogjuk egyhamar levágni őket!

I finally managed to take a close-up picture of Miriam's curls. She always faced me when I was approaching with the camera, but then I was able to distract her.

It's a lot of work to get up half an hour earlier every morning so I can do her hair, but it's worth it!

OK, I was just kidding!!! :) Nevertheless, we have never seen such curls in our family, so we won't get them cut for a while for sure!

Back to school - Kezdődik az iskola

OK, I did the exact same thing as yesterday and now it uploaded the pictures! Don't tell me that computers don't have bad days! :) So here we go...

One of the major events for our family was that Oliver started school! He was VERY excited about learning new things and getting all the nice school supplies: 

OK, teljesen ugyanazt csináltam mint tegnap és most feltöltötte a képeket! Ne mondjátok nekem, hogy a számítógépnek nem lehet rossz napja! :) Akkor vágjunk is bele...

Az egyik legfontosabb esemény kis családunk életében az volt, hogy Olivér iskolába ment! Már NAGYON várta, hogy új dolgokat tanuljon nomeg hogy beszerezzük a sok klassz felszerelést.

Benjamin was not too sure about going back to pre-school at first. You know, it's the same-ol' for him, minus his big brother this year! But after a while he started to really enjoy it. Now he wants to go to school even on the weekend, which he never did last year! :) 

Benjámin eleinte nem igazán volt meggyőződve arról, hogy vissza szeretne-e menni az oviba. Tudjátok, neki ugyanaz volt minden, ráadásul a bátyus nélkül! De egy idő után nagyon megszerette. Most hétvégén is oviba szeretne menni, ami tavaly sose fordult elő! :)

Here is an extra with Oliver and his friend Ádám, who is a fourth-grader in the same school. They are more than three years apart but are best buddies! Oliver can giggle at Ádám's jokes like nobody else's and I think Ádám enjoys entertaining his little friend! :)

Back again - Visszatértünk

Long time no see, or long time no blog! Yes, quite a few weeks passed since we last posted. Did you miss us? :)

We have been quite busy as you will see from the updates, but the silence is also due to the fact that the inspiration for blogging somehow comes and goes for me. Sometimes I see a leaf falling from a tree and I think about writing about it on the blog, and sometimes - like now - there are a lot of concerns on our hearts that are not "blog appropriate", so I feel kind of weird writing about the "shiny happy" moments of our life - though there are plenty of those too!

Anyway, I am sure you are interested in pictures more than in my ramblings, so in the next few posts I will update you on a few recent events in our lives in a somewhat haphazard fashion.

PS: I just tried to upload a few pictures but it didn't let me! Maybe the system forgot about us! :) Anyway, I won't give up! Come back again!

Régen találkoztunk, vagyis régen blogoltunk! Igen, jó pár hét eltelt azóta, hogy utoljára jelentkeztünk. Hiányoztunk? :)

Elég elfoglaltak voltunk, ahogy majd láthatjátok a bejegyzésekből, de az is oka a csendnek, hogy nekem az inspiráció a bloghoz valahogy hullámokban jön. Néha látok egy fárol lehulló levelet, és arról is az jut eszembe, hogy írok róla  a blogon és van, hogy - mint most is - sok gond van a szívünkön amik nem valók a blogra és kicsit furán érzem magam, hogy itt meg a kis vidám dolgokról írunk - pedig van azokból is bőven!

De biztos vagyok benne, hogy mindenkit jobban érdekelnek a képek mint az én morfondírozásom, úgyhogy a következő pár bejegyzésben megörökítünk néhány közelmúltbéli eseményt kissé összevissza stílusban. 

UI: Megpróbáltam felrakni pár képet de nem sikerült! Talán elfeledkezett rólunk a rendszer! :) Node nem adom fel! Gyertek vissza később!
