OK, I have to admit that this is not perfectly fair. It is true that Matthew can do crazy things on stage, but otherwise he is the calmest, most well-balanced, most peaceful person I know. The hyper-doer-intense gene comes probably from me (and maybe some other members of the family that I don't want to name online - you know who you are! :)

Na jó, be kell vallanom, hogy ez azért így nem teljesen korrekt. Igaz, hogy Matt a színpadon őrült dolgokra képes, viszont amúgy a világon a legnyugodtabb, legkiegyensúlyozottabb, legbékésebb ember, akit ismerek. A hiper-nyüzsi-intenzív alkat gén valószínűleg inkább tőlem származik (illetve néhány családtagtól esetleg, akiket itt a világhálón nem neveznék meg! :)

Pre-school fundraiser/Óvodabál

Friday night was our first pre-school fundraiser party. It's an event where parents, teachers and people from the community get together and the proceeds of the evening go towards the maintenance of the school. As responsible and enthusiastic parents, we felt it was appropriate for us to be there and support Oliver's school this way.

We would like to start the account of the evening with a little quiz. Here we go!

Guess which event was NOT part of the program:

a. Welcome speech by the representative from our district
b. Raffles
c. A song performed by the teachers
d. A belly dancing show


Well?

Yes, you are right, the correct answer is "c"! The teachers didn't sing but there was a thirty minute belly dancing performance! What does the pre-school have to do with belly dancing? Well, hopefully nothing whatsoever, so we were quite surprised! Welcome to liberal Europe! As proof, scroll down for a picture (Don't worry, I - Melinda - took it and yes, I clicked when the ladies were veiled! :)

Péntek este résztvettünk életünk első óvodabálján. Hogy mi is ez? Ez egy olyan este, amikor az óvodai dolgozók, szülők és a kerület más lakói összejönnek és a bál összes bevételét az óvoda felújítására fordítják. Mint felelősségteljes és lelkes szülők úgy éreztük, hogy ott a helyünk, hogy támogassuk Olivér oviját.

Az estéről szóló beszámolót egy elgondolkodtató kérdéssel kezdenénk. Íme:

Igen, valóban, a helyes válasz a "c"! Az óvónénik nem énekeltek, de volt egy kb. fél órás hastánc bemutató! Hogy mi köze az óvodának a hastánchoz? Nos, reményeink szerint az égvilágon semmi, így igen meg voltunk lepődve! Íme a dokumentáció. (Nem kell aggódni, én - Melinda - fényképeztem és igyekeztem akkor kattintani, mikor a hölgyek fátyolozott állapotban voltak :)

As a compensation, we had German party music and dancing (yes, our son goes to a German heritage school! :)
Kárpótlásul viszont volt sramli zene és tánc (igen, német nemzetiségi óvodába jár a fiunk! :)

Festés/Painting

Ezt a bejegyzést kb. 2 hónapja akartam feltenni. Az történt, hogy mivel nem volt itthon a fényképezőgép, a telefonommal csináltam a képeket (bocsi a gyatra minőségért, de a lényeg azért látszik! :). Nem voltak meg viszont a technikai feltételek a képek átrakásához a gépre, így el is feledkeztem róluk. Most viszont egy kedves barátunk segítségével sikerült áthidalni a nehézségeket (köszi, Domó! :). Íme!

I wanted to put up this post about 2 months ago. What happened is that I didn't have the camera at home so I used my cell phone to take pictures (sorry for the bad quality but you can still see what happened! :). However, we ran into technical difficulties when we wanted to transfer the photos from the phone to the computer, so I forgot about them. But now with the help of a nice friend we overcame the difficulties. Enjoy!

Miért nem szabad kisgyermekeinket egyedül hagyni festés közben?

A minap épp festéshez készülődtünk (mert ugye még mindig hót szürke és nyirkos kint minden, ezért folyamodtam ehhez a - szülői részről nem kis munkát igénylő - szabadidős tevékenységhez), mikor befutott egy telefon. Szó se róla, Olivér megkérdezte, hogy elkezdhetik-e nélkülem, mire én mondtam, hogy igen! Aztán hallottam is, hogy nagy kacagások közepette csinálnak valamit, de bátor (?), illetve talán inkább könnyelmű anyukaként hagytam őket és csak remélni tudtam, hogy nem a falat festik éppen! Visszatérve láttam, hogy a sima festéket arcfestékként használták! Ajjajj! Azt hittem, hogy a lemosáshoz súrolókefét kell majd használnom, de csodák csodája, simán lejött fürdés közben egy kis szappanos dörgöléssel. :)

The other day we were going to do some painting (as the weather is still gray and wet, I reverted to this pastime, which requires quite a bit of work from the parent), when the phone rang. In all honesty Oliver did ask if they can start it without me and I said yes! Then I heard them doing something with great giggles and all, but as a brave (?), or should I say careless mother, I let them and was only hoping that they were not painting the wall! Upon return I realized that they had been using finger paint as face paint! Oops! I thought I would need to employ a scrubbing brush to remove it, but thankfully it came off with a little rubbing during bath time. :)

Barátok/Friends

Pár napig vendégünk volt kedves barátnőm, Kriszta, a két kisfiával. Ez azért olyan nagy szó, mert ők az Államokban élnek és igen ritkán találkozunk. Régen vagyunk barátnők és azzal szoktunk viccelődni, hogy Kriszta lekoppintotta az életemet. :) Ugyanis sok dologban hasonlóan alakultak a dolgaink, de mivel ő kicsit fiatalabb nálam, úgy tűnik, mintha utánozott volna! Például: mindkettőnknek egy öccse van, ugyanarra az egyetemre ugyanarra a szakra jártunk, ugyanabba a gyülekezetbe, neki is amerikai férje van és Mattnek hívják és neki is két kisfia van! OK, be kell vallanom, az utóbbi dologban én koppintottam le őt, mert Benjámin később született, mint náluk Dávid. No mindegy. Gondoltam, felrakok pár képet a két évvel ezelőtti és a mostani látogatásról.

We had my good friend, Kriszta, and her two boys visit us for a few days. This is special because they live in the States so we don't see each other very often. We have been friends for a long time and the joke is that she copied my life! :) Our lives have many parallels and because she is a bit younger than me, it seems like she was copying what I did! For instance: we both have a younger brother, went to the same university and majored in the same subject, went to the same church, she also has an American husband whose name is Matt and she has two boys! Well, I have to admit that in the last case I copied her, as Benjamin was born later than their David. Anyway, I thought I would post some pictures of their visit two years ago and now.

Hello, Matt here: last year I build Oliver a bunk bed. When Benjamin began sleeping in the kid's room, it became obvious that I would have to do something about the ladder. It was made of rope and wood. When Oliver would ascend or descend, it would make quite a bit of noise. So I cut up some wood and routered grooves for an all-new stationary wood ladder. Last week I finally got around to finishing it. After staining each piece a different color, I got out the router to see if I could actually draw shapes. The final product, seen above, tells the creation story: God created the waters, the land, the skies, the heavens and everything in them. Oliver loved it, but asked why I didn't make a flower, motivating me to carve flowers in the uprights. So there you have it. I am very pleased with it, in fact I think it's one of the most spontaneous, creative things I've done in a long time.

Csak akartam mutatni a lépcsőt amit csináltam Olivér emelt ágyára. Használtam egy felsőmarot depiktálni a teremtést: Kezdetben Isten teremtet a vizeket, a földet, az egeket, a mennyeket, és mindent ami bennük.

Divatbemutató/Fashion show

Sziasztok!
Még élünk és zajlik az élet rendesen. Itt van egy csapat Vajtáról: angol klubok, koncert, miegymás. A gyerkőcök is jól vannak, és persze sokat vagyunk kint ebben a jó időben! Apropó, jó idő! Megint nagy pakolásban vagyok (lásd itt) és már majdnem végeztem a téli cuccok elpakolása - nyáriak elővétele - nekünk adott ruhák elpakolása - továbbadandó ruhák szortírozása című végtelen feladattal.

We are still alive and life is in full swing. We have an outreach group here from Vajta: English clubs, concert, what not. The kids are well and we spend a lot of time outdoors in this spring weather! Speaking of good weather: I am again in the middle of a packing project (see here) and I am almost finished with the never-ending task of putting the winter stuff in storage - taking out the summer clothes - organizing things given to us - sorting through stuff to be given away.

Portraits/Portrék

Grandma Carol has a portrait collection of all her grandchildren at the age of a year and a half, so she asked us if we can have a nice picture taken of Benjamin at this age. So we asked the best photographer around: my brother, Péter. Over Easter weekend he took a few portrait shots of Benjamin, like this one:

Az amerikai nagyinak van egy portrégyűjteménye az összes unokáról. Minden gyerekről másfél évesen készítették a képet, így minket is megkért, fotózzuk le Benjámint ebben a korban. Így hát megkértük a közelben található legjobb fotóst, azaz drága tesócskámat, Pétert, hogy kattintson el egy pár képet Húsvétkor. Ez lett az egyik:

We all know that little kids are not able to sit motionless for any given time while the Master Photographer sets the lights, etc. So we looked for a kid-sized volunteer to take this job. We found one and I must say, he did a great job not fidgeting around! :)

Mindannyian tudjuk, hogy a kisgyerekek nem képesek mozdulatlanul tölteni semennyi időt sem, mialatt a Fotómaistro beállítja a fényeket, stb. Ezért kénytelenek voltunk egy kistermetű önkéntest keresni erre a feladatra. Találtunk is, és szó se róla, mocorgás nélkül teljesítette a munkáját! :)
As I mentioned earlier, my brother has a website of his photography. So far only the sports fans could take delight in this site, but now he has uploaded some nature pictures like the one below taken at Lake Balaton. Ahogy már említettem, van a tesómnak egy fotós weboldala. Egy kirándulás képei/A hike in pictures

Mostanában nem sok időt töltöttünk együtt, ezért vasárnap délután elhatároztuk, hogy elmegyünk kirándulni ebben a szép időben mint egy boldog magyar család. :) Tatabánya igazán nem a szépségéről híres, de klassz kirándulóhelyek vannak a környéken. Íme a délután képekben:

We haven't spent a lot of time together recently, so Sunday afternoon we decided to go on a hike in this beautiful weather, like a big happy family. :) Tatabánya is not famous for its beauty, but there are nice places for hikes. Here are some pictures of our afternoon:
